Can Anybody Make Money Blogging? Here Are Two Ways To Make It Happen

By Stu Lisonbee

Seems like everybody has a blog these days, doesn't it? In fact, you probably have one. And chances are you've probably heard about some people making a living from writing blog posts. Have you ever wondered if there is some way for you to do the same? Though very few people earn anything from their blogs, the truth is that it's one of the easiest methods for making money -- online or anywhere else!

If you maintain a blog, then you probably have a passion for whatever it is that you regularly write about. Regardless of what your passion is, there are many ways to turn your words into money. But for the purposes of this article, I'm going to stick to just a couple of the more common ones.

When you enter the realm of online money making, the first thing you must realize is that visitors equal money. And that is perhaps any popular blog's main source of income. When you have loads of visitors to your site, it's all about selling advertising space.

One of the ways to turn visitors into money is by selling ad space. The easiest way to do that is to join some sort of ad network such as Google Adsense, Bidvertiser, Adbrite, Valueclick and so forth. If you're big enough, you'll be able to negotiate directly with an advertiser and make even more money by cutting out the middle man.

But even if you're not getting enough visitors to make proper money from ad networks, there is another easy way to bring home the blogging bacon. This method involves getting paid not for visitors, but for the actual writing of a blog post.

Again, we look to a service network to help connect us with companies that are willing to pay us for each post we write. One of the most well-known networks is PayPerPost (clever name, right?) To get paid for your words, simply browse offers and pick the one you like.

Many advertisers only ask that you write a post on a specific subject and include a link back to their site from within the post. By browsing advertiser offers, you can look for subjects that are related to what you like to write about anyway and accept only those offers.

Offers are often based on your site's Google PageRank (PR). The higher your PR, the more you can make for each post. I've seen offers for all levels of PR, from PR1 all the way up. You'd be amazed what an advertiser is willing to pay for a link on a PR7 or higher blog!

PR1 sites don't make much, but over time -- as you post on a regular basis -- your ranking will increase and you'll get paid more. Your blog's authority receives a minor bump every time another site links to yours, so ask your fellow bloggers to link to your homepage. The more that do, the higher your authority will be and the more you'll get paid for blogging.
