Graphics/Wraps For Vehicles

By Ronald D Leverington

Here is a step by step process to applying vehicle wraps/graphics and following this step by step process you should ensure a great finished vehicle every time.

The first thing to do is remember not to overstretch you graphic. Overstretching the graphic can make the whole vehicle strange and it won't look like your original artwork. As you go make small tension slits along groves and seams to help the graphic sit better on the vehicle.

1.Clean, and clean again and maybe even again. It cannot be stressed enough every surface must be clean.

2. Apply a liberal amount of primer especially in groves where sticking maybe difficult.

3. Take off any extra styling part on the car of external extras like spoilers, window trims or body styling.

4. Make sure you use a good masking tape to tape up. There is a new water/paint resistant tape on the market and it is great. Make sure you have quick run without the graphic backing taken off to make sure everything fits.

5. Use a proper squeegee. Don't use anything other than a purpose designed squeegee, using anything else will drive you mad and put you off doing the job. There are no shortcuts with this one.

6. Spend a good amount of time cutting the edges of the film for the perfect finish. It is tempting to rush here to get finished but it is crucial to get each cut spot on.

7. If you are going to tint the windows a different colour now is the time to do it, while the seals and trims are removed and when you're done use a decent high quality Edge Sealer to get a proper finish.

8. Replace the styling parts and wiper blades and gently remove any tape or excess graphic that may still be on the vehicle. If you followed step 6 carefully this should be fairly easy.

9. Leave the vehicle to settle for at least 24 hours. You should not drive, move or clean the car for at least 24 hours but most would recommend 48 hours to make sure the wraps/graphics have stuck properly.

10. Finally, the first time you clean the vehicle after it has been wrapped you must do it by hand and you must do it gently. Don't use any abrasive brushes or chemicals.

By following these 10 simple steps in the vehicle wrap tutorial, you can rest assured that the vehicle wrap leaving your shop will look it's best now and for years to come.
