Are You Stressed? Can't Stand Your Job? Read More!

By Norita Sieffert

Is stress ruining your life? Do you find yourself frustrated and worn out all the time? Are you hating your job? It might be time for a change. The issue is that not everyone is able to make a change right now. Some people have no choice but to stick it out in their current circumstances. So what we really have are two groups of people. The first group is those who have the freedom to consider a change. The second group contains those who are not free at this time to consider changes.

If you find yourself in the first group, then a change of some kind is possible. The change could be some circumstance in your life, or it might be your career. Whatever that thing is, it seems to cause problems and you want to correct it. The first step is to muster your courage and actually consider making a change. It sounds nuts to say it that way until you really think about it. Doing something new can be ultra-frightening. I can predict that only a small group of those reading this are actually willing to consider making changes. Of that group, an even smaller subset will actually do something. Out of that small subset an even smaller subset will see the change through.

Maybe you're one of those willing to consider some type of change. If the issue is money or your job, think about working a couple of jobs. This can sound like too much, but it's really not as long as you realize it won't be forever. Take a look at where you're at right now. Then find another job that will work in conjunction with the hours you currently work. Figure out how long you must work that other job before the current situation changes. It could be that you just need to make enough to pay off a debt. Possibly you need to save enough dough to ditch both jobs and start looking for something completely new. It could be that you need to stay in both jobs until you are free to quit the first and hang on to the second. The point here is to be willing to do the hard things for a bit because they'll lead to the better things down the road.

Maybe the problem is not the job or money, but you're bored or you don't like who you are or where you're going. Consider going back to school. Again, it sounds overwhelming to try and work and go to school at the same time. But keep in mind that it's not forever. Calculate the time and effort and then envision yourself in that future place where you've accomplished your goal or gotten that degree. New doors will open up for you that you could not have imagined before.

If you're just looking for something new, then consider starting your own business. There are a ton of possibilities out there; some that will cost a fortune and others that can be started on a shoestring budget. If you're trying to make a change, then pick something that you really enjoy. Research it and then don't let fear stop you from going for it.

If you find yourself in the unlucky position where you are not able to quit your current job or change your current circumstances, there are things you can do to help alleviate some of the stress. The first is to make your home as peaceful and relaxing as possible so that you have a calm place to retreat to. Pick up some scented pillar candles or votive candles to place throughout your house. Scents like lavender are calming and soothing. Light them each day just as you get home and let the fragrance permeate the atmosphere. Treat yourself to a bath and add some floating candles. Staring into the flame is quite relaxing.

Don't look down on the power of prayer. If you believe in God then hand your troubles over to Him. He already knows what's going on anyway. He is able to change the circumstances, but it won't likely happen in exactly the way you thought it would. I once read a card from Hallmark that said, "You're the answer to my prayers. You're not exactly what I prayer for, but apparently you're the answer." Let yourself be open to what comes along and then gather your courage to step into it when the timing is right.

A second helpful tip if you're in a place where you can't change your circumstances is to try not to bring the problems into your home. If work is what is troubling you, then try to leave work issues at work. If it's not possible to leave it there, then only do work in one place in your house so that the rest of the house doesn't always remind you of work. If by chance the issue is in the home itself, the look online or speak with a trusted friend, pastor or counselor for ideas on how to correct the problem. I've heard it said that if you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you always got. You must do something differently if you are expecting different results.

Every one of us finds ourselves in some unique situations at various times. This may not be our fault. If it's possible to change it, we should give it a try. If it's not possible to change it right now, then we should look for ways to muddle through as best we can. The trick is to be courageous enough to take that first step. If a future version of yourself could come back right now and speak with you, what do you think he or she would say? Think about that as you consider making a change.
